1986 is Calling for Past Artists
NFTA is Reaching Out to the Public
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The year was 1986, Lionel Richie had the number one song, “Say You, Say Me,” “Top Gun” led at the box office, and here in Western New York, the NFTA displayed special tiles made from the selected drawings of local students on the walls of its headquarters. This was all part of a project sponsored by Tops Market. In total, there were 198 ceramic tiles, designed by renowned artist Jackson Gregory.
The ceramic tiles are displayed on two walls, and due to construction at the MTC (181 Ellicott), will have to come down. The NFTA is reaching out to the public in the hopes of finding as many of the artists who created the tiles as possible, and will try its best to save the tiles and give them to their rightful owners. A special display has been created for those to identify their works.
If you see your artwork and would like the tile, please e-mail tile@nfta.com. In your email include the number and name on the tile, as well as the description. Please provide the date and general time you will be coming in to pick up the tile. The tiles will be available for pick up from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting on October 14, 2019.
